Dear Reader

How to escape the high street crowds...

Part 1
The Village Bookshop has been a landmark on Plett Main street for well over two decades.  Recently refurbished and renovated, this charming book store now boasts a delightful small coffee shop in the back, with fantastic views over the bay.  Don't tell too many of your friends about this one.

Part 2
Kids need a break?  The children's library at the public library is airy and spacious, and filled with things to keep your younger kids busy.  With a large window looking out onto Marine Drive and the new Upper Deck centre, the library is a quiet retreat from the hustle on the sidewalk.

A smaller Choo-Tjoe
The real Outeniqua steam train may be out of action due to damage to the tracks between Wilderness and George, but don't despair.  The Knysna Model Engineers Society offer a trip that may be just as memorable as it's bigger brother.
The first and third Sunday's of every month these enthusiasts shine up and bring out thier hand made model steam engines, than can only be admired.  The track winds it's way through private gardens, and for a small donation, this is an inexpensive, fun family activity.  Ridge Street, Upper Knysna Heights, 073 257 7503

Urban Redevelopment
Phase one of the project to upgrade Main Street and it's sidewalks is almost complete, but not quite.  A carnival is planned for 16 December to officially open the new Main Street, but at time of writing, it looks very likely that these celebrations may be slighlty premature.
In the meantime, the new Upper Deck centre on Mellville's corner has opened.  Although detractors have stated that the new centre is too futuristic, the overwhelming majority believe that it is a great addition to Plett.

Fate of Robberg Huts
The future of the historic Fourie and Thesen huts on Robberg Nature Reserve will only be decided next year once Cape Nature Conservation has received input from provincial authorities and other stakeholders.  This may only represent a stay of execution for the huts, as Cape Nature have once again reiterated that they are determined to continue with the strategy to enhance the tourism potential of the park.

Upgrade to Plett Airport moving forward
A pre-feasibility study to upgrade Plett's airport should be completed soon.  The results of the study will be forwarded to National Treasury with a request for the formation of a public-private partnership that will be responsible for the day to day management of the airport.
It is envisaged that the municipality's involvement will be to ensure that service delivery levels are of an adequate standard, whilst leaving the running of the facility to the private partner.

Calendar of events
Plett Tourism has launched a Spectacular Summer of Experiences activity schedule, that runs from 15 Dec to 15 Jan.
Something has been planned for almost every day to keep our guests and visitors entertained.

We wish you all a blessed festive season, and we hope to see you soon in Plett.
Above all, please be safe, wherever you are going.

Merry Christmas
