Help Protect Our Birdlife

11th November 2016

Plett is rich in birdlife.   The area is home to more than 300 of the 841 bird species recorded nationally , with a high percentage of birds found only in South Africa.   To raise awareness about the impact that Bitou beachgoers have on nesting birds such as the Africa Black Oyster Catcher and the white- fronted Plover,  new signs are being erected.

Less than 10% of Plover eggs produce fledged chicks due to their nests being disturbed.  The biggest culprits are beachgoers and their dogs  who walk in these nesting areas.   Please look out for the new information boards which indicate to the public the vicinity of the nests and urge visitors to move away from the nests    Please help us to protect our precious birdlife!
