21 August 2021 is the date for the 5th edition of the MTO Trails Tsitsikamma Ultra Trail Run.
The Tsitsikamma Ultra Trail will be the flagship of this one-day festival held in the hamlet of Covie above Natures Valley. The 60km run along the Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail will finish just after a host of shorter runs using the Hiking Trail as well as the unique Fynbos paths of the Covie Hiking Trails.
With all the uncertainty with regards to COVID etc, we are going to go right back to basics for the run this year and make sure we get the run in most importantly. The run will be UNMARKED but the GPS track and a rally-style cue sheet will be given to all runners. We will be able to add the extra luxuries as we see what Level we are on. If possible, we will have a chill zone only for Ultra runners at the finish and a well-deserved meal and cold refreshment or two.
Registration will be simple – R100 non-refundable will book you a spot on the run (only 50 runners)
The balance of the entry as well any extras can be booked and paid for by the Monday before the run (Monday 16 August )
Merchandise will be on display and available to order at registration and finish.
The Trail Festival will include three runs from 5km to 20km around Covie on the morning of the race.
The Tsitsikamma Ultra Trail Run is a 60 km, linear trail, beginning under "The Big Tree" near Storms River and ending at Natures Valley. It journeys through the heart of the Tsitsikamma mountains where extensive patches of indigenous Afromontane forest and mountain fynbos still occur. The run follows the Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail in a reverse direction.
Water abounds but runners will need to carry their own nutrition.
